Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Speech/Theatre Program at Oklahoma City Community College, students will be able to:

Speech

  • Evaluate the strategies of communication
  • Apply the principles of effective speech preparation
    • Analyze the audience and adapt the speech to fit the audience
    • Use appropriate criteria for selecting topics for speeches
    • Recognize and use different types of supporting materials
    • Utilize research skills
    • Organize the speech: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion
  • Demonstrate the elements of effective speech delivery
  • Demonstrate the elements of his/her speaking experiences
  • Develop and build a stronger sense of self-confidence and self-reliance

Theatre Arts

  • Analyze theatre and have the ability to identify and describe artistic choices, visual elements and formal design elements
  • Examining materials and processes used by actors, designers and directors to critically examine works of theatre
  • Analyze the role theatre plays in our culture and identify the functions of theatre in various world cultures
  • Demonstrate the psychological and physical performance skills of the actor through exercises, improvisation, script analysis, and memorized scene work
  • Develop efficient use of the vocal apparatus and maintaining healthy vocal production for the stage
  • Possess the ability to understand and utilize IPA when examining theatrical texts to fully understand proper pronunciation of words
  • Demonstrate knowledge of where/how to find proper examples of various dialects from around the world
  • Examining materials and processes used by technicians, designers, and directors to critically examine works of theatre
  • Employ skills in a theatre production
  • Model collaboration as part of a production team
