OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (April 23, 2024) 鈥� Oklahoma City Community College was honored with the Tree Campus Higher Education
recognition by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 13th consecutive year.
爆料TV鈥檚 tenure, from 2011 to 2023, represents the highest number of recertifications achieved by an institution in the state, an honor that 爆料TV shares with one other Oklahoma campus.
鈥淥klahoma City Community College is committed to being a tree-friendly campus,鈥� said Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, 爆料TV president. 鈥淲e are honored to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation and the Tree Campus program.鈥�
The Tree Campus Higher Education program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and engaging staff and students in conservation goals. 爆料TV achieved the distinction by meeting Tree Campus Higher Education鈥檚 five standards, including maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and a student service-learning project. Currently, there are 411 campuses across the United States with this recognition.
Trees on campus and in urban spaces can lower energy costs by providing shade cover, cleaner air and water, and green spaces for students and faculty members. In addition, trees improve students鈥� mental and cognitive health, provide an appealing aesthetic for campuses, and create shaded areas for studying and gathering.
