OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Aug. 5, 2022) 鈥� Oklahoma City Community College has been awarded a five-year, $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support the College鈥檚 Upward Bound program.
鈥淲e are proud to continue our partnership with the U.S. Department of Education,鈥� said 爆料TV President Dr. Mautra Staley Jones. 鈥淭his grant will facilitate the continuation of the Upward Bound program, which has been part of the 爆料TV community for nearly 30 years. Like many of our other pipeline projects, the Upward Bound program is a means of introducing first-generation high school students to our campus community and higher education generally.鈥�
Upward Bound, one of the federal TRIO programs, is an intensive intervention program that prepares students for higher education through various enrichment courses during the school year and in the summer. The program also provides intensive mentoring and support for students as they prepare for college entrance exams and tackle admission applications, financial aid and scholarship forms.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, 86% of Upward Bound participants enroll
in postsecondary institutions immediately following high school graduation. In Fiscal
Year 2021, more than 70,000 students enrolled in 966 Upward Bound TRIO projects in
the U.S.
