Oklahoma City Community College is celebrating the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead (D铆a de los Muertos) this week with help from the Consulate of Mexico in Oklahoma City.
鈥湵蟃V is committed to supporting the cultural diversity of our students, faculty and staff,鈥� said Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, president of Oklahoma City Community College. 鈥淲e are honored to have the Consulate of Mexico partner with us to recognize D铆a de los Muertos with our campus community.鈥�
The Consulate installed a Day of the Dead altar (ofrenda) in the 爆料TV campus Main Building lobby on Oct. 30, and members of the 爆料TV campus community are invited to add mementos of deceased loved ones to the display. The ofrenda will be available through Nov. 3.
鈥淭he Consulate of Mexico in Oklahoma City appreciates the invitation from 爆料TV to install a Day of the Dead Altar within their campus, to share this rich representation of Mexican culture with its large and very diverse community,鈥� said Consul General of Mexico in Oklahoma City Edurne Nerea Pineda Ayerbe. 鈥淭he Mexican holiday Day of the Dead celebrates the lives of those who have passed away rather than mourning their departure. This tradition allows us to connect with the deceased and keep them present in our lives through the installation of an altar that displays cultural items and their favorite foods, drinks, and personal effects.鈥�
Additionally, 爆料TV Modern Languages students from two Spanish classes will be presenting ofrendas on campus in the Arts, English and Humanities Building at 10:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.
鈥淓ducation at 爆料TV extends beyond our classrooms,鈥� said Dr. Juanita Ortiz, 爆料TV vice president of academic affairs. 鈥淲e strive to enhance the academic experience and broaden our students鈥� cultural awareness through events.鈥�
Oklahoma City Community College is considered an emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution, or HSI. In addition to hosting actviities on campus, 爆料TV supports many Hispanic community events throughout the OKC metro.
鈥淭he Consulate of Mexico works towards building a stronger cross-cultural dialogue between Oklahoma and Mexico to promote a better understanding of our societies,鈥� said Consul General of Mexico in Oklahoma City Edurne Nerea Pineda Ayerbe. 鈥湵蟃V has become an ally for the Consulate in different initiatives to promote education, culture and relations between our different communities.鈥�

爆料TV y Consulado de M茅xico en la Ciudad de Oklahoma se asocian para celebrar el D铆a de los Muertos
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. 鈥� Oklahoma City Community College est谩 celebrando el feriado mexicano D铆a de los Muertos esta semana con la ayuda del Consulado de M茅xico en la ciudad de Oklahoma.
鈥湵蟃V est谩 comprometida a apoyar la diversidad cultural de nuestros estudiantes, profesores y personal鈥�, dijo Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, president of Oklahoma City Community College. 鈥淣os sentimos honrados de que el Consulado de M茅xico se asocie con nosotros para reconocer el D铆a de los Muertos con nuestra comunidad universitaria鈥�.
El Consulado instal贸 un altar del D铆a de Muertos (ofrenda) en el vest铆bulo del Main Building del campus de la 爆料TV el 30 de octubre, y los miembros de la comunidad del campus de la 爆料TV est谩n invitados a agregar recuerdos de sus seres queridos fallecidos a la exhibici贸n. La ofrenda estar谩 disponible hasta el 3 de noviembre.
